Judy Stewart is an accomplished weaver and has been published in Handwoven Magazine several times over the years. "Diamond Echoes" is in the May/June 2016 issue.
This issue is themed "light & dark". Judy uses the natural pale golden color of tussah silk for the warp & ground weft. She used our popular Kiku (20/2 bombyx silk) for the pattern weft...using a different color for each scarf.
TIED OVERSHOT
It's easy to think of "overshot" weave structure as only used for coverlets. But, using silk and the proper sett, overshot can give a lovely drape, perfect for scarves.
Judy selected "tied overshot" which is also known as "star and diamond" weave. While producing the "half-tones" so characteristic of overshot, "tied overshot" is more closely related to Summer & Winter weave structure.
These scarves have lovely drape. Plus, characteristic of "Summer & Winter," each scarf has a lighter side and a darker side.
What we love most about the design of this scarf is Judy created a large-scale design that can be viewed from across the room. Then, when you're within "weaver's handshake" distance, you can see the lovely half-tones and other details.

Plus, there are so many color possibilities...we selected two:
1) As designed by Judy: #40 Winter Sage & #9512 Arbutus, plus a cone of Kundana (natural color tussah)
2) #15 Azure & #216 Soft Iris, plus a cone Kundana (natural color tussah)
KIT DETAILS
Your Diamond Echoes Scarves Kit makes TWO scarves on 8-shaft loom. The finished size of each is a about 7-1/4" wide and 57" long (plus 6" fringe each end, before twisting).
Each kit includes:
--2,732 yds (147g) of Kundana (35/2 tussah silk yarn) CONE for warp and tabby weft
-- 498 yds (55g) of Kiku (20/2 spun bombyx silk) in color #1 for pattern weft (for scarf #1)
-- 498 yds (55g) of Kiku (20/2 spun bombyx silk) in color #2 for pattern weft (for scarf #2)
