Garnet Red Threads & RibbonsJanuary 14, 2024

Silk threads and ribbons in Garnet colors. Why are there more colors than red? Because the garnet stone comes in a wide variety of colors beyond red.

Garnet is the official birthstone for January and signifies protection, friendship, trust, commitment and love.  What a wonderful way to begin the year!

It's such a pretty red--make that "reds"-- that I was inspired to pull garnet colors from our 1,160 selection of silk thread and ribbons.

I inherited a pair of garnet earrings from my maternal great aunt. But I wanted a photo that showed garnet's range of reds.  The best place for gemstone information and photos is Gemological Institute of America (GIA.edu) website.  Boy, was I suprised to learn garnets come in a wide range of colors beyond red!

TRADITIONAL GARNET REDS
I started pulling colors from the red/red-violet family, using this photo from the GIA.edu website.  This was so much fun! I could have spent all day playing with color!

Some of our limited edition 65 Roses* colors fit nicely into this grouping [see photo below]

FULL RANGE OF GARNET COLORS
The next bit of fun was selecting the "full range" of colors in which Garnets may be found.  I used the garnet photo from the GIA.edu website for a guide.  We have so many color possibilities, but Montano 'Macau' looks like it could have been named "The Many Colors of Garnet!"
