Richard has been really busy and creative this fall. In addition to dyeing the seven new bombyx colors (CLICK HERE to see bombyx colors), he also dyed three different silk-blend slivers. Plus a limited edition 100% Tussah combed top/sliver.
50% BOMBYX SILK / 50% SURI ALPACA
We've dyed this popular blend before--this time it's in a limited edition colorway. CLICK HERE to order.
The Silk/Suri Alpaca has a fiber length is 51/2 – 6 inches (14-15cm). This is a skinny, pencil-sliver.
The white suri alpaca in our blend was raised in Florissant, Colorado, at Hay Creek Station.
55% BOMBYX SILK / 45% YAK
This is the first time we've dyed our silk/yak blend. CLICK HERE to order.
Yak has a short fiber length--just 1-11/2 inches (2.5-4cm). Our silk fibers are the same length as the yak. This means the silk and yak will stay evenly blended in your hand-spun yarn. If the fiber lengths are different, then you'll have "pools" of yak and "pools" of silk.
Short fiber lengths can be spun on a great wheel, a small Russian spindle, a charka or an e-spinner.
The natural taupe-y grey gives the colors a beautiful "smoky" look that I love!
55% BOMBYX SILK / 45% COTTON
We've dyed this silk/cotton blend before. We had requests to dye more, so Richard did! CLICK HERE to order.
Like the Silk/Yak, our Silk/Cotton has the same short fiber length: 1-11/2 inches (2.5-4cm).
Because we dye for silk (protein), the plant fiber cotton does not dye. When you spin, your yarn will have soft, heathery colors.
100% TUSSAH SILK
While not a blend, I wanted you to see our latest limited edition colorway in our Tussah. CLICK HERE to order.
We dyed "Moonlit Madness" in both bombyx and tussah silk. I love how the naturally golden tussah makes the colors deeper and richer.
