We relish providing fresh concepts for creating beautiful silk work and imparting a keener understanding of silk. Our small mail order company bursts with pride over our fast, efficient and friendly service as well as being informed about all aspects of silk. Sue and Teri answer the phones, send out parcels to homes and businesses around the world, fill up our kits, enter innumerable things on the computer and generally keep everything on track. Since 1977, Treenway has operated as a 'cottage industry' where some of the staff work from their homes. Tucked away in their own workshops, hand-dyers Bean, Cheryl, Mary and Jill tint the yarns in 100 luscious solid colours and 74 variegated colourways. Bales of natural silk arrive on our doorstep from China just waiting to become a kaleidoscope in their dyepots. Judy works from her home winding embroidery threads and making the warps and wefts for scarf kits designed by Karen Selk, assembling all our sample cards and ironing, wrapping and labelling our 5 yard ribbon packages. Treenway breathes silk: from travelling to Asia, working with our products and raising silkworms. Each June brings silkworms and mulberry leaves to be carefully tended nearby the parcels and the computers of Treenway's office for fun and observation. A colourful and educational poster about the history of silk and the metamorphosis of silkworms has resulted from the many years of travel, research and hands on experience. Yearly meetings, in Canada or China, have brought an excellent working relationship, greater understanding and friendship with the producers of our silk goods. All the unique silks we have manufactured to our specifications have slipped into the shafts of Karen's looms. Our reputation is based on quality and inside out knowledge of our products. We are proud to represent our friends "Down Under"; we are the North American representative for Treetops Colour Harmonies of Australia. |
